Game Strategy, 9-Ball Safety
Strategy 1 - NEXT >>
If you can't run the table all of the time, you may want to add some nice safety plays to your skills set.
A more advanced version of this drill would be to cut the angle that you are given from the cue ball to the object ball. A much thinner cut is necessary to execute this shot successfully.

Mar 1, 2005  can someone tell me about injuries in billiards
Feb 20, 2005  that's ok unless your playing busch league rules. then your in trouble
Feb 8, 2005  Its put there because its a tough safety to pull off. It will come in handy to master that type of safety because there are many situations where there is no option but a safety of that sort is optimal.
Jan 27, 2005  or just backspin the cue, instead of the top spin, and line the (1) up with the same pocket you combo'd into last
Jan 27, 2005  For one, yes this site is alittle "wack", but as for the shot...do the damn combo-(1) into (4) with some top and not very hard at all...not hard to execute, that way your next shot with the (1) ball is a sure shot in the opposite corner you just pocketed the (4)
Jan 16, 2005  this site is wack
Dec 26, 2004  WTF

Feb 5, 2004  good tip, too bad i don't understand the fucking rules to any game
Nov 19, 2003  la bola es buena, aunque hay que prever que no se debe dejar bola vista, porque se corre el riesgo de que el contrario no nos deje tiro a nosotros.
Aug 27, 2003  interesting.
Jul 2, 2003  wouldnt this play be a foul since after hitting your obect ball the cueball or the object ball didnt hit a rail?????
Mar 3, 2003  sup all im billiard master here and i can kikz all yours asses
Feb 15, 2003  with the bottom diagram. i would just hit the yellow ball with top left just enough so it can pass the left side of the dark ball. The object bal is not gonna hit a rail but the cue ball will hit a rail and just enough to get behind the dark ball. And keep in mind when your trying to get behind the dark ball. try your best to get the cue ball frozen with the dark ball. =)
Nov 7, 2002  u guys must be slow.
Nov 6, 2002  A soft combo with a little top and you have the 9in the other corner. Seems a little easier to me.
Oct 27, 2002  ADMIN: Drill updated.
Oct 14, 2002  ADMIN: We have the instructor reworking this drill. Thanks for all your feedback.
Oct 10, 2002  i think that shot is too hard for average players i would hit the other side of the object ball sending it past the other ball and make it follow so the cue ball would hide behind the dark ball
Sep 24, 2002  I've been trying this drill out. You have to just barely touch the first object ball for this to work. At the same time, use extreme right hand english. My advice to the instructor who wrote this is to make a video and put it up for us to see it in action.
Aug 21, 2002  HOW ?
Aug 21, 2002  Hey guys, show the pool table, numbered balls the draw and the cue aim. NOW what< (the mechantics)
Aug 21, 2002  Not helping this 1st time player. In other words, HOW does the ACTION srart, how??
Aug 21, 2002  I'm standing py the table. what do I do to; aimdraw back and hit the ball? the cue stik,
Jul 18, 2002  that`s to hard
Jun 12, 2002  Combo's are risky...practice this one, it comes up almost all the time. Also, it puts you in a good position to get a second foul, perhaps leading to a thrid and a win. If nothing else, table control is what it is all about. Most people when they get to a certain level can pot just about anything, but not everyone can play a good safety game. Practice this safety, it comes up ALL the time.
Mar 13, 2002  This saftey requires so much skill, it's almost just easier to play the combo here. First, you have to be able to judge the deflection, amount of english, and angle of the cue ball coming off of the 1. Second, if your speed is a little off either way, you've just shot yourself in the foot! But, I can definitely see the advantage in being able to consistently hit a shot like this, though I doubt it happens too much outside of the professional level. I'd just shoot this combo, or thin the one and play a distance saftey, leaving the combo for my opponent. :)

        QuickTips

» Chalk your cue well before taking any shot that requires english/side.
» Make sure that there isn't anyone behind you when you are about to take your shot.
» Stay down after the shot, you can admire your work just as well staying down as standing up.
» Don't talk, laugh or chew while taking the shot; small movements of your head could hurt your aim.
» Find a bridge you are comfortable with and stick to it. Definetly don't alternate using an open and closed bridge on each shot.
