Game Strategy, Common 8-ball Position
Key 8-ball Shot - << PREV || NEXT >>
Even though there are an infinite number of places for 8-ball and cue-ball to end up for your attempt at pocketing the 8-ball some setups occur more often than others. Take the following example, for example. This 8-ball shot requires the player to be competent at two key skills. Pocketing a ball stuck to the rail, and also stretching/bridge usage.
From left to right the difficulty increases. The first shot is leaning over the rail (for a right handed player), the second is a long stretch, and the third uses the bridge.
This is concidered one of those shots that you will definetly want to make 90%+ successfully.

Feb 9, 2004  lol Oct 2nd didnt happen to mention if he is a pro or not, I am assuming not though, heres the funny part I have several videos most of which by the preacher, Know him? Probably not, anyway he instructs you to hold your bridge and stick just like you are telling everyone not to. As for the bar league comment, well I play on two, and anytime you want to roll the rock against this bar leaguer why then bring lots or $ and let Get er Done. After that I will let you play my brother, who is also on my "Bar league team" and you can see how bad he is LOL by the by he is only 14.
Nov 20, 2003  Try the Moosehead bridge. Great item, has 9 different bridging positions--even ones low enough for draw while keeping your cue level.
Oct 13, 2003  Bar league. I play in one and have many books on the sport. You got the 6 through wacko! Do not make assumptions based on where people play
Oct 2, 2003  Don't hold your cue like a dart. Hold your stick so your forearm is parallel with the table. That way you can stroke level. Also don't put the bridge head 2 inches away from the object ball. Keep as far as possible to a max of about 9 inches. Pool is all about stroke. How can you stroke the ball when you shoot down on it like a dart. Some people need to quit their stupid bar leagues and actually read a book or watch a tape and study how profesionals do it.
Apr 9, 2003  you never need to hit a ball hard. you stroke hard. its not recomended to use draw while using a bridge although it is possible if you shoot down on it a little, but don't shoot down on it with the tip on the middle of the stick or it will jump like a mexican over the Rio Grande. Also you should RARELY have to use the bridge. Learn how to play with both hands.
Nov 7, 2002  Until you get a little more experienced.. I wouldn't recommend using "draw" with a bridge during an actual game.
Sep 24, 2002  I tend to jack up pretty high and get really close to the cue ball when I need to use draw.
Sep 21, 2002  Some notes on using a bridge:
* Lay the bridge down on the table, and hold it down FIRMLY with your bridge hand. Don't try to hold the butt of the bridge in the air while you shoot.
* Hold your cue like you were throwing a dart.
* Don't try to get too fancy. You can use draw or english with a bridge, but your main objective is making the shot. Having great shape doesn't mean squat if you've dogged the shot.
Sep 4, 2002  What is the best way to get draw on the cue ball when using the bridge. The further away I move the bridge from the cue ball the less acurate I am and I don't like hitting down on the cue ball?
Apr 18, 2002  I've been practicing a lot using the bridge lately. One thing that I like to practice is hitting the ball very hard while using the bridge. Your aim needs to be perfect not to miss.

        QuickTips

» Chalk your cue well before taking any shot that requires english/side.
» Make sure that there isn't anyone behind you when you are about to take your shot.
» Stay down after the shot, you can admire your work just as well staying down as standing up.
» Don't talk, laugh or chew while taking the shot; small movements of your head could hurt your aim.
» Find a bridge you are comfortable with and stick to it. Definetly don't alternate using an open and closed bridge on each shot.
